Garage Door Flooring Guide

There’s a broad range of garage door flooring options currently on the market today. In this blog entry, the Illinois garage door repair experts here at Garage Door Repair Chicago will detail some of the most popular and useful options for garage door flooring in the world today.

Concrete Sealant

Concrete sealant is tinted or clear coating that can be applied to your existing garage floor. It’s cheap and easy to apply, and moves into the concrete’s pores to waterproof it. Many types of sealant can stain and seal concrete, creating a much stronger surface, and protecting your floor against water, oil, chemicals, and road salts. Concrete sealant won’t hide cracks or blemishes, and should not be used over existing epoxy coating or paint. It can add a slight tint or sheen, and has maor aesthetic benefits for your garage.

Concrete Staining

Concrete staining is applied with a thin coat, soaking into the concrete and becoming part of the floor. Concrete staining comes in a wide variety of colors, providing a natural stone appearance. Concrete staining does not protect the concrete, which would require a separate coat of sealant to protect against moisture or chemicals. Concrete stains won’t hide blemishes or cracks, but can help to disguise them.

Epoxy Paint

Epoxy is a durable floor coating that works in two parts – paint and hardener. It covers stains and cracks, and protects against oil, gasoline, oil, and strong chemicals. Epoxy application requires patching, cleaning , and etching – and has to be completed quickly before the epoxy dries.

Snapping Tiling

Snapping tiling is made of interlocking plastic, is easy to install, and is incredibly durable and affordable. Just sweep away deris and lay down the tilesThe rigid plastic tiles are chemical resistant, and can resist heavy weight including floor jacks. The tiles are easily applied and removable – just make sure your garage floor doesn’t have any dips before you apply it. There are, however, limited color options when it comes to snapping garage floor tiling.

Flexible Tiles

Flexible interlocking garage tiles are usually made of heavy duty rubber or vinyl. They come in a wide range of colors – so a wide range of design and color combos are available. Flexible tile installation is super easy, and it is more easily installed over uneven garage floors. However, flexible garage tiles are more easily damaged than snapping garage floor tiling – but are still more easy to replace.

Garage Carpeting

You can apply indoor or outdoor carpeting inside your garage to protect your garage floor from leaks and hide stains. Try using adhesive carpet squares for fun color combinations, and to create a garage environment that is comfortable to walk on.
